Student Services Updates

The health and wellness of students and staff of Manhattan Area Technical College is our highest priority.

Out of an abundance of caution, Manhattan Tech has made some temporary changes, listed below, to the way we provide services to prospective and current students in light of the growing concerns related to the coronavirus.

Refer below for letter from the Dean of Student Services:

I hope that this finds you and your loved ones healthy and doing well in these turbulent and trying times.

Many student service and college professionals across the country have spent years in higher education and never encountered the current challenges facing the higher education system. The situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) has unfolded quickly and required some dramatic decisions to be made in a very short period of time.  Everyone has been affected in some way. For students just starting their college search, or seniors trying to figure out where they are going in the fall of 2020, the closure of college campuses, cancellation of campus programming, and the inability to visit campuses is especially challenging, confusing, and really disappointing. Not only has this affected our incoming students, it has uprooted the learning and home environment for many of our current students.

In any other year, once students are back on campus from spring break, this is the time we normally start the annual frenzied, thrilling, and always captivating race to finish the semester. The arrival of spring on campus after a long winter, hosting Open House, and witnessing the current graduates hard work leading up to Commencement in mid-May are some of the great joys of being a part of the Manhattan Tech community. However, this has all been put to an unceremonious halt in this tumultuous and difficult time.

We all share concern for the health and well-being of our families, loved ones, and our broader communities, and may be feeling stress and anxiety in this current climate. The current decisions from administration were not easy ones to make, and Manhattan Tech joins many technical, community colleges, and universities in taking preventative and proactive actions. We do so by public health guidance, and in consultation with colleagues across higher education who are facing the same need to protect those most vulnerable in our communities in the face of COVID-19 spread.

Please show caring and give grace wherever and whenever you can over the coming weeks. To current and prospective students, your patience is greatly appreciated, and we promise to continue to build on resources we can provide for you to reach your HIRE potential.

Stay Healthy and Safe!
