JumpStart your Education with Manhattan Area Technical College!
The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) at Manhattan Area Technical College was started as a partnership with area high schools to help their students get a jump start on their college education. These students are provided the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.
Concurrent Credit courses are college courses taught at the high school by qualified high school instructors in which the students receive both high school and college credit. Students are registered each semester by MATC personnel who come to the high school on scheduled enrollment days. Students are taught using the same materials as the on campus college courses and use the same textbook. The same outcomes and competencies must be met by concurrent students and regular traditional college students. Concurrent Credit courses follow the high school academic calendar.
Dual Credit courses are regular college courses taken by a high school student, taught by a regular MATC instructor (rather than a high school instructor). These classes may be on campus or online and are not special classes for high school students only. Dual Credit courses follow the MATC academic calendar.
Under Excel in CTE (previously SB155), The State of Kansas will pay the tuition for high school students to pursue college level courses in technical fields that prepare them for high demand and high wage careers.
Who is Eligible?
- Students must be classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school
- 3.0 GPA for general education courses
- 2.0 GPA for career and technical courses
- Completed prerequisites for applicable courses
