The Apprentice Lineman performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground 12.5KV electric distribution power lines, protection equipment, metering and other electrical equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of all primary circuit feeds, load consumption, metering, ratios, electrical hookups, safety
procedures and all types of transformer banks; thorough knowledge of all safety rules to protect employee, co-workers and the public; thorough knowledge of electric services, products, service requirements and construction standards; thorough knowledge of circuits and accessory equipment; thorough knowledge of codes, ordinances, and franchise agreements; ability to operate bucket trucks, aerial lifts, digger trucks, trenchers, electrical test equipment, meters, fault locators, hand tools and other related equipment; ability to lead and work on a team effectively; ability to read maps, blue prints, and drawings.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED with coursework in electric power technology, or related field and moderate experience in electrical distribution installation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid CDL required
Essential Functions
Constructs and maintains overhead and underground power lines.
Constructs and maintains transformer and capacitor banks.
Constructs and installs secondary service lines and street lighting
Sets poles and strings conductors; pad mounts and pole mount transformers.
Conduct electric utility locates.
Performs tree trimming and brush cutting to remove line detriments.
