Position Summary:

This Equipment Mechanic Senior position works in the District Six office located in Garden City, KS. This position conducts thorough field inspection of specific types of KDOT sponsored transit vehicles (buses, vans and cars).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • One year of experience in automotive and/or diesel mechanics to meet the needs of the agency. 
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment. 

Job Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Examines the equipment service logbook, and a thorough exam of the equipment to detect safety deficiency, servicing requirements and repair needs. Responsible for shutting down unsafe vehicles and coordinating the inspection process through many different agencies throughout 19 southwest Kansas counties. Requires frequent contact with the public in the public transit system, i.e., office personnel, maintenance personnel, drivers, mechanics and department heads associated with all the different agencies.
  • Provides training for Highway Maintenance Workers on equipment inspection, specifically on what to look for in the inspection and how to properly service the equipment.
  • Responsible for the inspection of the department’s buildings in the District. This includes the physical condition of the interior and exterior of their buildings as well as the yard and grounds. Responsible for keeping inventory of all cores and verifying that all cores match the inventory. 
  • Attends classes, meetings and conferences pertinent to the foregoing and performs necessary research to stay abreast of changing requirements. 

Salary/Pay

Compensation:

  • Base Annual Salary:  $56,680.00
  • Base Hourly Pay:  $27.25
