Policy Type Academics
Policy Number: 4.2.07
Date Policy Issued: November 10, 2005

Policy Owner: Chief Academic Officer

Policy Statement:

Manhattan Area Technical College maintains a college-wide minimum grading scale for all credit courses. The grading scale for each course must be stated in the course syllabus and communicated to students at the beginning of the course.

A home program may establish a more stringent grading scale for its courses when the nature of the program requires a higher standard. Any program-specific grading scale must be approved through the appropriate academic review process and must be clearly stated in the syllabus and other course materials.

Policy Rational:

College Standard: Unless otherwise approved under this policy, the standard MATC grading scale is:

Letter GradePercentage Range
A90–100
B80–89
C70–79
D60–69
F59 and below

This standard is intended to provide a consistent baseline across the college while allowing academic programs to set higher expectations when appropriate.
