Job Description

Be the first smile a student sees at the beginning of the school day and the last smile a student sees to end their school day! USD 383 is hiring School Bus Drivers to join our team. Drivers are an essential team member that transports students to and from school and extracurricular events while ensuring student safety. A School Bus Driver’s responsibilities include making sure that their vehicle is in good shape and observing safety and traffic rules while on the road. This is an ideal opportunity for retirees, veterans, and people needing a flexible schedule. Full-time and part-time job opportunities are available.  

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.  
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with an exemplary driving record.  
  • Must be able to acquire a CDL license with P and S endorsement.  
  • Must complete Standard First Aid, CPR for Adult, Child and Infants, and Defensive Driving courses.  
  • Must be able to pass endurance test and lift/drag 75 pounds.  
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and are subject to random drug testing.  
  • Must pass a DOT physical examination upon hiring and every 2 years after.  
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.  
  • Must hold a valid drivers license for 12 months and pass MVR check. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Vision and dental insurance are available for employees working 17.5hours/week.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.  

Salary/Pay

Salary:  

  • $9.75/hour during a 5-week training period.  
  • $17.50 - $20.00/hour after training is complete. 
  • Placement within this range is based on relevant qualifications, including prior experience, education, and applicable certifications (e.g., bachelor's degree, advanced certification, bilingual proficiency, etc.). 
  •  Additional compensation for certifications available.

Hours Per Day:  

  • Mornings - 6:00 am – 9:00am  
  • Afternoons - 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm  
  • Possible additional hours with field trips, after-school events, and/or athletics.  
  • 6 hours a day/30 hour a week minimum.  

Terms of Employment:  

  • Position available during the regular school year.  
  • Options for summer employment.  
  • New employees go through a 45-day introductory period as part of onboarding after which benefits will begin, and leave can be used.  

Reports To: Director of Transportation. 

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
