Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining computer systems and software within Dodge City Community College and other units as well as monitor and optimize system performance and diagnose the correct system faults for these environments, ensuring stable and efficient operation of those computing systems on which the College depends. 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Working understanding of the major administrative information systems in order to provide technical assistance, advice and planning input.
  • Experience in Windows compatible microcomputers, popular software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop publishing programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written to present technical information.
  • Experience with software maintenance, software testing, Network Design and Implementation, Software performance tuning, network performance tuning, load balancing and scalability, and database performance tuning. 
  • Able to work flexible a work schedule.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license.

  • Monitor and manage all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of existing hardware and software in use to maximize efficiency of the network and users' utilization of them; and provides written documents which evaluate LAN information on periodic intervals.
  • Install/Programs/Maintains/Upgrades fiber, POE and core network switch(es).
  • Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Provides technical and administrative support for WIFI, faculty and student networks.
  • Secures network by developing network access and monitoring controls and evaluation, maintaining documentation.
  • Establish, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructure to maximize DC3 computer system capabilities by studying technical applications and making recommendations to other staff.  
  • Evaluate the existing systems and provide technical directions to IT support staff.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.
  • Plan and implement systems automation as required for better efficiency.
  • Formulate and design the security system in place to maintain data safety.
  • Monitor and manage Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system.
  • Diagnose system emergencies when they arise and persevere until they are resolved.
  • Liaise with vendor representatives when resolving software and hardware problems.
  • Plan the installation and implementation of new hardware and software.
  • Evaluate system potential by testing compatibility of new programs with existing programs.
  • Evaluate expansions or enhancements by studying workload and capacity of computer system.
  • Improve existing programs by reviewing objectives and specifications; evaluating proposed changes; recommending changes; making modifications.
  • Maximize use of hardware and software by training users; interpreting instructions; answering questions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Occasionally, travel to various locations to support remote campuses or attend job related trainings. 
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

Salary/Pay

$60,000.00 To $65,000.00 Annually
