Letter from the President

Dear Manhattan Tech Community,

I want you to know that we are doing everything within our power to ensure the health and safety of Manhattan Area Technical College (MATC) in light of the global spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I am extremely proud of the resilience, spirit, and compassion shown in our community. Even though we are all facing our own struggle to form some sort of “normalcy” during these less than normal times, our faculty, staff, students, and the community are still finding ways to support each other.

The College leadership team is meeting regularly and thinking of you as we do our part to continue to respond to this ever-changing pandemic. Know that we are continually monitoring this public health issue and assessing our options under the guidance of the federal, state, and local health entities. In planning for the fall 2020 semester, MATC has two priorities: safety and student success. We must protect the health of the campus community while giving students educational opportunities that lead to good jobs, economic mobility, and personal fulfillment. Student success is, as always, our focus. A safe and healthy campus community is always a top priority as well, and the COVID-19 pandemic requires us to take extra measures to ensure that everyone remains healthy.

Therefore, MATC has enacted protocols, guidelines, and measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on campus: general infection prevention measures, self-monitoring and reporting guidelines, classroom/lab cleaning protocols, and specific infection prevention controls. These protocols will continue to be monitored and updated as the guidance standards change at the local, state, and federal level.

At the same time, MATC has enhanced technology to provide learning access and opportunities through various modalities: face-to-face, online, hybrid, distance learning, simulations, and more. Our “new normal” continues to mean we have to adapt so we can stay safe, learn, and move forward.

Although we recognize that the days ahead may be challenging, we will remain true to the very heart and purpose of MATC… Providing HIRE Education! We continue to be committed to student success and look forward to a great 2020 fall Semester!

Regards,

James D. Genandt, PhD
