Separation from Employment

Policy Information
Policy Type Human Resources
Policy Number: 7.2.3
Date Policy Issued: November 11, 2011

Policy Owner: Chief Human Resource Officer

Policy Statement:

Although most organizations hope the employment relationships established with employees will be mutually rewarding and long term, all organizations experience turnover. Resignations, separations, retirements, and College-initiated involuntary terminations are inevitable. With this in mind, the College has developed a policy for such instances.

Policy Rational:

This policy aims to create a structured, transparent process for employment separations that respects both the College's operational needs and the employees' rights. Given that employee turnover is a natural part of any organization, the College must ensure continuity and clarity when managing different types of separations, including resignations, retirements, and terminations. This policy provides clear definitions and requirements for each scenario, enabling consistent and fair handling of separations.
