Job Description

The School Substitute Nurse provides temporary heaslth serevices coverage in the absence of the regular school nurse. This position promotes the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student in the district by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools. This is an ideal opportunity for retirees, veterans, students, and people needing a flexible schedule. Full-time and part-time job opportunities are available. 

Qualifications:

  • LPN or RN License required. 
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters. 
  • Assumes responsibility for the first aid care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or illness 
  • Provides health education on an individual basis. 
  • Visits home of students when necessary or when referred by principals. 
  • Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. 
  • Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health problems. 
  • Interprets laws relating to school health. 
  • Assists school personnel in establishing healthy conditions in schools. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. 

Salary/Pay

Salary: 

  • $18.00/hour.  
  • This position is not eligible for benefits. 

Hours Per Day: 

  • Elementary schools – 7:30am - 2:30pm
  • High school – 8:00am - 3:10pm
  • Early Learning centers – 8:40am - 3:40pm
  • Middle schools – 8:40am - 3:50pm
  • Times may vary depending on the building assignment. 
  • Flexible hours depending on availability. 
  • Average workday = 7.5 hours. 

Terms of Employment:

  • Positions available during the regular school year.

Reports To:  

  • Director of Communications and Safety/Building Principal. 
  • Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on the evaluation of personnel.
