Steps to Apply for Short-Term Healthcare Courses

Below are steps to applying for short-term healthcare courses at Manhattan Area Technical College. You can also view the Current Listing of Course Offerings.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Short-term healthcare courses are NOT ELIGIBLE for financial aid

REVIEW REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION NECESSARY FOR ENROLLMENT

Review all required documentation needed for enrollment.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

MEET PRE-REQUISITES

Must be 18 years of age, before beginning the course.

Must have a current active Kansas CNA certificate, without probation.

Must have a computer and internet access to complete the online portion of the class.

TWO PERSONAL DOCUMENTS

Current state-issued photo ID and Social Security card

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS OR EXEMPTION REQUEST*

Tuberculosis (TB) Test - You must provide documentation of a current negative TB skin test completed within the past 6 months. For testing information, please visit the Riley County Health Department's website.

If you are unable to undergo a TB skin test due to a medical contraindication, a negative Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) completed within the last 60 days will be accepted as an alternative.

Influenza (Flu) Shot - Required during flu season in the fall and spring (not required in summer courses). Information about the flu vaccine can be found on the Riley County Health Department's website.

Evidence of COVID-19 Vaccine

Refer to the CDC’s Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule OR Adult Immunization Schedule for additional guidance. Additional immunizations might be necessary in order to complete internship(s). 

READING TEST OR COMPLETION OF A COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSE

Successfully complete one of the following reading requirements and meet the applicable score:

If you have taken a college-level writing course (English Composition, Expository Writing, etc.) and passed with a grade “C” or higher, you will need to submit your transcript or grade report.

*Students may seek a medical or religious exemption from a clinical partner's vaccination requirement. Refer to the Vaccination and Exemption Webpage for more information.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

INACTIVE KANSAS CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE CREDENTIAL

Prospective students must hold the Kansas Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) credential but are not active (certification has lapsed) and want to reactivate their CNA status. Look up Kansas CNA credentials at www.ksnurseaidregistry.org

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

IMMUNIZATION/TITER REQUIREMENTS OR EXEMPTION REQUEST*

Tetanus (TDAP) - One (1) dose taken less than 10 years ago - Please ask your healthcare provider to give you the TDAP vaccine.

Hepatitis B (Hep B) - Three (3) doses or proof of immunity by titer. If your titer is low, you should get the vaccine. Paperwork for a low titer will not be accepted.

NOTE: Students looking to participate in the Phlebotomy Clinical (ALH 1202) course are subject to additional immunization requirements.

SUBMIT APPLICATION AND UPLOAD REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Once you have your required enrollment materials ready, click the link below to submit an Undergraduate Application. When completing your application, select “Short-Term Healthcare Course” under the Enrollment Information tab. After submission, you’ll gain access to your Applicant Status Portal, where you’ll upload all required checklist items.

Once your application and materials are submitted, our team will review your file within five business days.

If everything is complete and accurate, you’ll receive an email sent to the personal email address listed on your application. Follow the instructions in that message to reset your password and access your Manhattan Tech account.

COMPLETE PAYMENT TO ENROLL 

To finalize your enrollment, complete any required course payment using your Manhattan Tech student account.
