To ensure you're ready for a strong start, please review the class-specific information below. Be sure to gather any required supplies and complete any necessary steps before your first day — we want you to feel confident and fully prepared when class begins!

Preparing for the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Course

To set yourself up for success in the CNA course, please complete the following steps and come prepared:

Scrubs & Dress Code

  • Scrubs (1 set) in Wine (burgundy) or Caribbean Blue (teal) are required for class and clinicals.
  • Scrubs may be purchased anywhere; allow time for delivery if ordering.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes (tennis or walking shoes preferred).
  • Maintain professional hygiene: clean uniforms, pulled-back hair, and neat facial hair.
  • No loose, suggestive, or inappropriate clothing.

Required Items

  • Textbook and writing materials for each class.
  • Watch with a sweep second hand (no phones or digital watches in clinicals).
  • Optional but recommended: stethoscope and manual blood pressure cuff.

Textbooks

  • Textbooks are included in your course fee and distributed on the first day.
  • Review assigned chapters before each class to stay on track.

Course Materials & Assignments

  • An Interview Assignment is due by the second class meeting.
  • Reading, workbook assignments, and online quizzes follow the course schedule.
  • Self-study papers will be assigned as topics are discussed in class.
  • Lab participation is required—see the schedule for lab days.

Parking Pass & Student ID

  • Issued on the first day of class.
  • Have your vehicle license plate number ready for the parking form.

Preparing for the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Update Course

To set yourself up for success in the CNA Update course, please complete the following steps and come prepared:

What to Wear and Bring on Class Day

  • Wear clean, appropriate attire—scrubs are recommended—to safely and professionally demonstrate patient care skills.
  • Please bring a black ink pen and your CNA certificate number (if available).

Food and Drink Policy

  • Food is not permitted in the classroom or lab.
  • Drinks in closed containers are allowed.

CNA Reactivation

  • After successfully completing the session, the Director of Allied Health will submit the necessary documentation to KDADS to reactivate your CNA certification.

Preparing for the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Course

To set yourself up for success in the CMA Update course, please complete the following steps and come prepared:

Clinicals

  • Students will be assigned three clinical shifts, scheduled from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Textbooks

  • All required textbooks are included in the course cost and will be distributed on the first day of class.

Preparing for the Phlebotomy Course

To set yourself up for success in the Phlebotomy course, please complete the following steps and come prepared:

  • All required textbooks are included in the course cost and will be distributed on the first day of class.

Course Format & Technology Requirements

This course includes both independent online work and mandatory in-person lab sessions.

  • Lecture content is delivered online.
  • Phlebotomy skills are taught in face-to-face labs.
  • Students must have regular access to a computer and be comfortable using online platforms to complete coursework and submit assignments.

National Certification Information

For those pursuing national certification as a Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP), please note that the ASCP Board of Certification has additional eligibility requirements beyond the scope of MATC’s Phlebotomy course.
