Registered nurses with an associate degree are skilled health care providers who administer nursing care directly to patients and their families in a variety of settings.

The Associate Degree program at MATC provides a bridge from being a licensed practical nurse to becoming a professional nurse through courses and clinical practice. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

This program aligns with the Kansas Board of Regents curriculum.

^Priority for the fall entrance is given to the current MATC Practical Nursing students looking to bridge over into the ADN program that meet that meet all admission requirements. Must have an Active Kansas Recognized LPN License Prior to Applying The college reserves the right to admit fewer than twenty-four (24).

Manhattan Area Technical College does not require vaccinations. Manhattan Tech partners with multiple health systems and healthcare providers to provide clinical and programmatic experiences for our students; many of our clinical partners require all students to have received varying types of vaccines before their on-site experiences and training may begin. As a result, unvaccinated students could be precluded from participating in these activities, potentially impacting their ability to complete all program requirements.

Please be informed that certain vaccinations are mandated by the clinical agencies with which we collaborate. While you may submit a request for exemption, please note that approval is not guaranteed. The decision to grant an exemption is at the sole discretion of the respective clinical facilities.

2024–2025 Estimated Academic Year Budgeted Cost of Attendance

The estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) is a budget that includes categories of expenses that a student can expect to incur while attending college. The COA does not reflect actual charges. It is an average based on the estimated living costs typical of our region. A student's cost of attendance is composed of all educational expenses that can be included for financial aid purposes that a student may accrue while pursuing their education for the year. A student's financial aid cannot exceed their cost of attendance. Schools are required to provide a fuller picture of what it may cost students to pursue their degree, not just what they will owe in tuition/fees and books/supplies. Students awarded Federal Direct Loan(s) also have an average of the mandatory loan fees automatically added to their COA.

Students with disability-related expenses may contact the Financial Aid Office to have their additional expenses considered. Disability-related expenses include but are not limited to: personal assistance, equipment, and supplies. The Financial Aid Office may potentially include disability expenses in the COA that are not provided by other assisting agencies.

The completion of a criminal background check is one of the admission requirements to the Associate Degree Nursing program. Specific requirements in regards to the background check will be given at orientation upon student acceptance. The background check is required to ascertain:

The ability of students to eventually become licensed in the profession AND
The ability of students to attend mandatory clinical rotations at external facilities in accordance with the requirements of the program.

Because a criminal history can have different effects at the educational, licensure, and employment levels, when a person is considering pursuing a nursing career, it is best to have as much information as possible prior to deciding to enroll in a nursing program. Manhattan Tech encourages individuals who have criminal histories and who are interested in pursuing a nursing career to:

Contact approved nursing education programs and ask about the programs’ enrollment criteria with respect to criminal convictions;
Review the criminal history information according to the Kansas Board of Nursing policy 65-1120*; AND
Contact healthcare facilities and inquire about hiring criteria with respect to criminal convictions.

Successful completion of a nursing program at Manhattan Tech qualifies the student to take the NCLEX exam; it does not guarantee licensure with any State Board of Nursing.

*This regulation deems certain criminal convictions could result in denial or restriction of access to a Kansas nursing license.

Manhattan Area Technical College maintains compliance with Federal Regulation for State Authorization 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) and provides public notifications for programs leading to professional licensure or certification for all modalities. For information about program licensure disclosures for the program click here.

Some academic programs require you to have equipment, tools, supplies, and uniforms on the first day of class. Other programs have compiled a tool kit that is required for the students attending those programs. The tool kits and supplies will be available on program orientation day. On program orientation, day students must submit a non-refundable seat deposit. Refer to the information below for each program's seat deposit and tool requirements.

NOTE: Cybersecurity (TBD) and Electrical Technology ($350.00) programs are still pending start dates.
