Certified Medication Aide

The course includes current drug/medication classifications, actions, use, side effects, adverse reactions, interactions, and nursing care for medications used to treat commonly recurring health conditions affecting body systems; administering prescribed medications, monitoring oxygen therapy, and applying non-sterile dressings; legal, ethical and current practice; and communication and documentation. Competencies are evaluated during the classroom, lab, and clinical experiences. An active CNA credential is required to enroll in the CMA course.  After completing the course and passing the state test, the student is credentialed as a Certified Medication Aide in Kansas.  The course follows the curriculum specified by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).

Certified Medication Aide Refresher (CMA)

This course follows guidelines specified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) for required continuing education and recertification for certified medication aides.
