Job Description

The Lead District Maintenance – HVAC performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable volume systems.  Independently employs specially designed software and remote computer links to monitor systems and troubleshoot malfunctions.  This position will also work in a general maintenance capacity to maintain school building and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.    To accomplish these tasks the HVAC technician must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Possess journeyman or master HVAC related license.
  3. Must have EPA refrigerant type I and II or universal certification..
  4. Ability to read and interpret building blueprints.
  5. Ability to read and interpret technical and job related materials.
  6. Prior work experience in HVAC and general maintenance.
  7. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  8. Desire to continue career improvement.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
  2. Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  3. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  4. Perform troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls.
  5. Performs HVAC systems inspections and manufacturer recommended preventative maintenance.
  6. Performs major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators.
  7. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  8. Will assist in all areas of facilities maintenance and must possess working knowledge of:  plumbing, carpentry, electrical, sheet metal and welding.
  9. Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
  10. Staff members must not exceed 40 hours of work in a week.  More than 40 hours may be assigned, but is not authorized without prior approval from the Assistant Superintendent of Business.
  11. Act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
  12. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in       accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  13. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
  15. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.

  20. Other duties as assigned by administration.

Salary/Pay

Base hourly rate is $23.05 with additional compensation for past work-related experience and level of education.
