SkillsUSA Students Win Big at State Competition

Students recently attended the SkillsUSA Kansas State Competition representing Manhattan Area Technical College. The conference, held April 24-26 in Hutchinson, KS was attended by students and advisors from technical colleges around the state. Students competed against others in various areas including Leadership, Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision Repair, and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.

Manhattan Area Technical College returned from the competition with six medals overall. Winners from Manhattan Area Technical College included HVAC Gold Medal – Sheldon Wilson; HVAC Silver Medal – Thomas James; Job Interview Gold Medal – Philip Champion; Job Demonstration Gold Medal - Adam Ptacek; ACR Silver Medal - Garrett Dressman, and ACR Silver Medal – Jack Mitchell. 

The first place winners from this competition will be attending the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky June 24-28, 2019. There, they will compete against winners from all across the nation in the largest display of skills training in the country.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. They are a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
