The Welding Program is an intense program designed to prepare students for immediate employment into the job market upon completion of the program. In addition to providing the specific technical skills necessary for employment, the program also includes general education knowledge necessary to function in today’s society. Students receive classroom and hands-on training utilizing the latest welding and cutting equipment available in the industry to provide experience and allow for entry into a variety of welding professions. Students who successfully complete these classes will be capable of passing an AWS structural steel qualification test, D.1.1, by showing proficiency in Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
This program aligns with the Kansas Board of Regents curriculum.

The AAS in Welding Technology provides students with skills in various welding processes, metal cutting, and fabrication, preparing them for careers in manufacturing, construction, and repair.
The Certificate B in Welding Technology delivers practical training in welding processes and metal fabrication, focusing on hands-on learning with various types of welding equipment and techniques.
The Certificate A in Welding Technology provides targeted training for experienced welders aiming to enhance their skills, covering advanced welding processes and precision fabrication techniques to meet evolving industry demands.

It is an average based on the estimated living costs typical of our region. A student's cost of attendance is composed of all educational expenses that can be included for financial aid purposes that a student may accrue while pursuing their education for the year. A student's financial aid cannot exceed their cost of attendance. Schools are required to provide a fuller picture of what it may cost students to pursue their degree, not just what they will owe in tuition/fees and books/supplies. Once your application has been processed and you are a new student, you will receive an email to the personal email address listed on your application. This email will provide instructions on accessing your student portal and setting your password. This will be the only communication with your personal email, which will be with your Manhattan Tech email address after that.
Federal financial aid is available through grants, loans, and work studies. To be considered for federal and state financial aid programs, complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can submit the FAFSA online through the Department of Education’s site: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Manhattan Tech’s school code is 005500. Official high school and college transcripts can be mailed or transferred electronically (registrar@manhattantech.edu) directly from the issuing institution and received by the Registrar before registration. Additional questions can be directed to our Registrar's page.
Manhattan Tech requires the Accuplacer Assessment to determine placement for all students entering a program. You can schedulethe assessment test through our website. If you have already completed college-level math and English classes, you may not need to take the Accuplacer.
Students must submit a $250.00 non-refundable seat deposit and intent form for enrollment into program classes.
After all applicable admissions requirements have been completed, you will be provided notice by admissions to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor for enrollment. To schedule an advising appointment, book online.
Students are required to attend Program Orientation. During these activities, faculty and staff provide vital information to help students successfully transition to Manhattan Area Technical College, including Manhattan Tech Policies and Procedures, Program Course Schedules, Performance Expectations, and Tools/Equipment/Uniform requirements.

Completion of the Welding Technology program prepares students to be proficient in AWS D.1.1 standards. See KBOR website for specific processes and welding position qualifications.
Some academic programs require you to have equipment, tools, supplies, and uniforms on the first day of class. Other programs have compiled a tool kit that is required for the students to purchase that will be attending those programs. The tool kits and supplies will be available on program orientation day. On program orientation, day students will be required to submit a non-refundable seat deposit. Refer below for seat deposit and tool requirements for each program.
