Letter of Accommodation

What is a Letter of Accommodations?

A Letter of Accommodations (LOA) is a document provided by the Student Services Office that explains to faculty the reasonable accommodations for a student. The Letter of Accommodations is given to students who have met all of the following criteria:

  • Submitted appropriate documentation to verify their disability.
  • Met with the College Accommodation representative.
  • Have been approved as an individual covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008.
  • Are eligible to receive reasonable accommodations at Manhattan Area Technical College.

The letter contains course accommodations the college recommends based on the student's disability.

THIS INFORMATION IS CONFIDENTIAL

Accommodations are required by law under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Accommodations are provided to minimize the impact of the functional limitations of a disability in a classroom.  Accommodations are not required to provide a fundamental alteration of a course or program. Students with authorized accommodations will provide a Letter of Accommodations document to each instructor informing them of the approved academic adjustments approved for each course.  Students are encouraged to discuss their accommodations with the instructor; however, the student is not required to disclose or discuss specific disability-related information.

The student named above-provided documentation to the Student Services Office in order to receive academic accommodations. The following are the approved minimum accommodations Manhattan Tech authorizes to be used in your course:

After the necessary accommodations are made, the student should be graded according to the same standards used for other Manhattan Tech students. The Student Services Office welcomes your input and questions regarding this process. Please contact accommodations@manhattantech.edu or 785-587-2800. Thank you for helping to make Manhattan Tech an accessible and equitable place to obtain an education.
