Online Instruction to Begin March 30 - Posted 3/23
Attention MATC Students:
At Manhattan Tech the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. Therefore, based upon federal, local, and state mandates we are announcing the following precautionary measures:
- Manhattan Tech will be closed to students, visitors and the public until April 6th.
- All courses will move to online instruction beginning March 30th (Refer to Continuation of Instruction section for more information).
Continuation of Instruction
- General Education, Business Administration, and lecture/didactic components of technical courses will go to an online format beginning March 30th.
- Beginning March 30th technical program instructors will deliver all classroom instruction online.
- Hands-on technical competencies will be taught face-to-face beginning April 6th while practicing social distancing guidelines and adhering to Riley County Health Departments (RCHD) 10-person limitation on public gatherings. Therefore, on-campus instruction will be delivered to groups of no more than 9 students at a time.
- As we move online, it is critical students log-in regularly to complete course work and submit assignments. We will continue to issue grades based on student assignments and homework. Maintaining good grades remains as important online as it did in face-to-face courses to earn credits and complete degrees.
- Instructors will contact their students via Canvas/email to help them prepare for this transition.
Campus Safety
In adherence with federal, state, and local recommendations the College is performing the safety measures below:
- Before students can enter any technical lab/clinical areas on April 6th, they will be asked to answer a set of screening protocol questions through CANVAS. Then each day after, programs will have a roster available where the student will initial verifying that their answers to the statements on the screening still apply.
- Employees or students presenting symptoms (fever, cough, etc.) will not be allowed to participate in a face-to-face setting and are encouraged to self-quarantine as instructed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Students and employees will not be allowed to bring children on campus.
- The Commons will be open with limited access to the vending machines, restrooms, etc. Tables and chairs will not be available to individuals to limit the number of people in the area.
- Safe hygiene and social distancing will be taught and strictly practiced.
Campus Events/Travel/Visits
- Group and individual campus visits will not be permitted during the spring 2020 semester.
- All on-campus events have been cancelled for the next 8 weeks (refer to cancellation list on website). Alternatives to our traditional commencement ceremony are being considered. More information will be provided later.
- College-sponsored travel for employees should be avoided. Any exceptions will be at the discretion of the vice president/supervisor of the department.
High School Students
- General education courses will go to an online format and begin March 30th.
- Excel in CTE courses are still under determination. Once a decision has been made an update will be provided.
Campus Operations/Staffing
- Manhattan Tech will be closed to students, visitors and the public until April 6th. After April 6th the College is asking the public and students to conduct as much business through email, online resources, and the telephone as possible to reduce the traffic at the college.
- Essential employees will work remotely until April 6. After which the College will be working with staff on staggered schedules in order to adhere to the social distancing guidelines as provided by the CDC (6 ft).
- Advising and enrollment for summer and fall courses will continue as scheduled. It will be done remotely whenever possible.
- All on campus testing will not take place until April 6th. If you have scheduled a test that falls prior to this date the respective testing center will reach out to you in order to assist you. Any future testing on campus will take place under adherence of the social distancing guidelines.
Manhattan Tech community please keep in mind that this is an unprecedented time and an extremely fluid situation that evolves daily if not hourly at the local, state and federal level. We will continue to monitor and adjust as necessary. Any changes or updates for employees and/or students will be communicated via Rave alert, CANVAS, and their Manhattan Tech email account. We will notify the general public on our website and via our social media channels.
